Canal and River Trust

Canal and River Trust

The waterways running through Burnley are more than just a scenic backdrop, they’re a hub of activity, connection and community. Working closely with partners along the canal, the Canal & River Trust support two welcoming community bases right here in Burnley – Finsley Gate Wharf and the Canalside Cottage at Rosegrove – where there’s always something happening.

From relaxed social groups, gardening, crafting and volunteering, to litter picking and more active options like walks, cycling and even time out on the water, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Throughout the year, the canal also plays host to cultural events, including the much loved canal festival.

Alongside supporting a wide range of community activities, the Canal & River Trust plays a vital role in caring for and maintaining the canal helping to keep it safe, welcoming and accessible for everyone to enjoy in their own way, at their own pace.

The towpath connects communities right across Burnley, offering a valuable space for both physical activity and moments of calm an important asset for wellbeing in our wonderful Outdoor Town. So whether you’re looking to meet new people, try something different or simply spend more time by the water, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
