Friends of Parks

Friends of Parks

Our parks don’t stay special by accident, they’re looked after by people who care.

Across the borough, “Friends of” groups and volunteers play a huge part in keeping parks welcoming, safe and full of life. From planting and improving spaces to helping run events or simply keeping things tidy, these groups bring people together and make a real difference.

Growing Wellbeing Through Friends of Parks

Looking after them isn’t just good for the park, it’s good for us too. Getting involved, even in small ways, connects directly to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, helping you feel happier, healthier, and more connected to where you live.

The 5 Ways to Wellbeing – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give offer simple, everyday actions that can help improve our mental health and overall sense of wellbeing. Being part of a Friends of Parks group naturally brings these ideas to life, providing opportunities to meet new people, spend time outdoors, learn more about local green spaces, and contribute to something meaningful.

Whether you’re helping at a community event, taking part in a clean-up, or supporting planting and conservation work, it’s a chance to feel more connected to your surroundings while making a positive difference in your local park.

Whether it’s helping out during the holidays, supporting a one-off event, or just joining a litter pick once in a while, it all adds up. These small look after our parks, whilst also looking after each other, building connections, improving wellbeing, and creating spaces that we can feel proud of.

If you’ve ever enjoyed your local park, this is your chance to give a little back and help keep it thriving for everyone.
