Litter Picking

Litter Picking

Litter picking is one of the simplest ways to make a visible difference to where you live. Whether it’s a quick solo tidy on your daily walk or joining a community group, every piece of litter removed helps protect wildlife, improve local spaces, and build pride in our neighbourhoods.

We’re proud to celebrate the people who are already making this happen, our everyday heroes who are helping to keep our streets, parks and green spaces clean and welcoming.

Starting Solo

If you’d like to get involved, starting on your own is easy. Just grab a bag (and a litter picker if you have one) and head out into your street or local green space.

If you need a little hand to get going, or want to borrow equipment, you can do this via the council website here.

Litter picking is for everyone, its flexible, accessible, and a simple way to take pride in where you live while making a positive impact.

Litter Picking & the 5 Ways to Wellbeing

Did you know litter picking doesn’t just help your local environment, it’s also a powerful way to support your wellbeing?

  • Connect – Join a local group, meet neighbours, and feel part of a shared purpose.
  • Be Active – Walking, bending and moving keeps you gently active outdoors.
  • Take Notice – Focusing on your surroundings helps you stay present and mindful.
  • Keep Learning – Discover more about your local environment, waste, and wildlife.
  • Give – Giving your time to improve your area brings a strong sense of achievement, positivity and pride in place.

It’s a simple action with big benefits, for your community, your environment, and your health.
