Green Activities
The Climate Action Funded #OutdoorTown project in Burnley is aimed at creating a greener, healthier, and more connected community through the enhancement of outdoor spaces, raising awareness of opportunities and environmental education.
Our vision is to create a vibrant #Outdoor Town, where the outdoors connects people with their community through sports, arts, culture, learning, health, and wellbeing. We aim to foster a sense of ownership and pride in our greenspaces at the neighborhood level, helping people appreciate the value of nature and the benefits it offers for both themselves and the environment.
Community Gardening Initiatives
Our green activities coordinator, using an electric vehicle, travels across the borough to work with local residents to plant woodlands, create garden spaces, restore former sites and much more.

Workshops and Events
Throughout the project, we will plant 15,000 trees and enhance 7.465 hectares of wildflower meadow. Residents are encouraged to come along learn new skills and support the planting.
There will also be opportunities to attend an array of events, drop in sessions and workshops including tree and wildflower walks, bird identification, hedge creation, Bumble Bee talks and much more….
In addition there will be a whole host of park-based Health and Wellbeing events and opportunities including the Burnley Nature Festival.

School programmes
Connecting children to nature from an early age is essential for their overall development and well-being. It encourages active lifestyles, reduces stress, and improves concentration, fostering better physical and mental health. Integrating nature education in schools and through workshops further enriches this connection, providing hands-on learning that improves academic performance and deepens understanding of the environment and how they can take care and pride in it for the future.
We support schools in building on their existing provision to continue to encourage early exposure to nature. Through family sessions and workshops both in schools and local community spaces, we hope to instill a lifelong appreciation for the environment, promoting sustainable behaviors that will contribute towards a healthier community and planet.
Whether you’re an individual, organisation, school or community group, our CAF project may be able to support you in some way. Do not hesitate to reach out to Henry for more information about getting involved.
The CAF #OutdoorTown project is funded via the National Lottery Community Fund and delivered in partnership through Burnley Borough Council and Burnley Leisure and Culture.
