Green Activities Coordinator
The Climate Action Funded #OutdoorTown project in Burnley is aimed at creating a greener, healthier, and more connected community through the enhancement of outdoor spaces, raising awareness of opportunities and environmental education.
To help achieve this, the appointment of a Green Activities Coordinator provides dedicated support to the Council’s Green Spaces teams. This role strengthens the delivery of activities, events and community engagement across our parks and open spaces, helping to maximise their social, environmental and wellbeing benefits.
The role of the Green Activities Coordinator is varied but primarily focuses on three key themes, each designed to support the effective use, enjoyment and sustainability of our green spaces.

Community Gardening Initiatives
Our green activities coordinator, using an electric vehicle, travels across the borough to work with local residents to plant woodlands, create garden spaces, restore former sites and much more.
Henry helps community members take ownership of new and existing spaces, sharing expertise on the benefits of caring for greenspaces. He also raises awareness of volunteer opportunities with groups like Trees for Burnley and Friends of Parks groups who are committed to protect and promote pride in our outdoor spaces.
Workshops and Events
The Green Activities Coordinator plays a key role in bringing our OutdoorTown’s programme to life, supporting a wide range of events, workshops and community activities that celebrate our natural spaces. Working closely with partners, volunteers and local groups, they deliver fower and tree identification walks, and hands-on nature workshops for all ages.
Henry also supports the planning and delivery of larger events such as our annual Nature Festival, alongside a variety of park events and festivals throughout the year.

School Programmes
Connecting children to nature from an early age is essential for their overall development and well-being. It encourages active lifestyles, reduces stress, and improves concentration, fostering better physical and mental health.
Integrating nature education in schools and through workshops further enriches this connection, providing hands-on learning that improves academic performance and deepens understanding of the environment and how they can take care and pride in it for the future.
The Green Activities Coordinator supports schools in building on their existing provision to continue to encourage early exposure to nature. Through family sessions in schools and local community spaces, we hope to instill a lifelong appreciation for the environment, promoting sustainable behaviors that will contribute towards a healthier community and planet.
Whether you’re an individual, organisation, school or community group, our CAF project may be able to support you in some way. Do not hesitate to reach out to Henry for more information about getting involved.

The CAF #OutdoorTown project is funded via the National Lottery Community Fund and delivered in partnership through Burnley Borough Council and Burnley Leisure and Culture.
